W&L Back Campus Trails
Dirt trails with hilly and flat sections, access from Lexington
Formerly the Washington and Lee cross country team's home cross country course, the Back Campus Trails consist of 1.5 and 2.75 mile loops with a number of connecting trails in-between the two. The lower loop is nice and flat while it runs along the Maury River, but getting back to the top of the trails will give you quite the hill workout. At the far end of the lower loop, add an extra challenge by running up the many stairs that take you up from the river to the top of the cliffs above. View a map of the trails here.
The trails can be accessed in several places. There is an entrance to the left of the Duchossois Tennis Center on West Denny Circle and another one a bit past the old ruins on the left. The trails can also be accessed via the stairs, especially if you want to connect to the Woods Creek Trail, as the stairs come out just above the Trail.
